Vermont 2-1-1

Vermont 2-1-1 is the number to call to find out about hundreds of community resources like emergency food and shelter, disability services, counseling, senior services, health care, child care, drug and alcohol programs, legal assistance, transportation agencies, educational and volunteer opportunities, and much more.

2-1-1 is your first step toward solving everyday problems or when you are facing difficult times. 2-1-1 is not an emergency number like 9-1-1, nor is it directory assistance like 4-1-1. The Vermont 2-1-1 service is free, confidential, and is available 24/7.

Vermont 2-1-1 can provide clients with much more than a phone number or the service hours of an agency. Information & Referral Specialists follow a process that includes:

  • Establishing Rapport
  • Gathering information through active listening
  • Determining the caller's previous efforts
  • Problem-solving in partnership with the caller
  • Matching resources with needs
  • Identifying potential barriers
  • Making appropriate referrals to services
  • Offering follow-up if appropriate
