During a storm, Milton has a safe-roads-at-safe-speeds and not a bare-roads guideline. This was adopted by the Selectboard as part of the Winter Operations Guidelines approved November 13 (linked below). This directs the Highway Department to keep roads plowed, salted, sanded, and open to traffic and maintained to a degree that allows motorists to use them at safe speeds. Since Milton does not have a bare-roads policy, we ask that drivers work with us, understanding that during a storm roads will be covered with some snow and/or ice. To traverse our roads safely during and just after a storm, drivers will need to slow down and drive according to the conditions. After the storm, our crews will continue to treat roads as necessary to return to bare pavement as soon as possible on a "corridor priority" schedule based on the highway level of service. Main corridor roads will take priority over lightly traveled rural roads when making decisions on where to allocate our resources to clean up after a storm. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!
